The ancient yoga practice has been around since time immemorial. The first description of hatha yoga is over two thousand years old. Kundalini Yoga is rightfully classified as a new school. Historical excursion

Energy, which in traditional yoga is called “kundalini”, gave a name to a new direction of ancient practice, combining physical, spiritual and psycho-emotional human improvement. It is designed to awaken the energy, which, according to the ancient teaching, is born at the base of the spinal column in order to nourish all seven energy channels of our body.

The symbol of kundalini yoga is the image of a snake entwined in a ring. And the name itself is translated as “curl”.

In addition, this trend is associated with the image of a diamond. Since it is considered an elite “squeeze”, a kind of “extract” of the ancient yoga practice.

Its founder is Yogi Bhajan. He created the first school in this direction in 1969. Moreover, the motive for this decision was a good goal – the salvation of people with drug addiction. They got the opportunity to give up the addiction, thanks to hard work with their own body and spirit.

It is curious that two decades after this significant event, the teacher and founder of the direction visited the then head of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev.

This direction is considered the most socialized, secular. It does not require complete immersion in oneself, abandonment of society, withdrawal from the real world.

The advantages of this direction of yoga for beginners are:

  • improving endurance, flexibility, strength and other physical capabilities;
  • finding harmony with yourself and with the world around you;
  • disclosure of internal potentials, etc.

Special exercises, kriyas, help to optimize the root energy of kundalini, direct it along the main energy channels and remove “blockages” or “jams” on its way, which create various psycho-emotional problems, generate unnecessary anxiety, unmotivated fears, numerous complexes, etc.

The founder of the direction recommended performing each exercise:

  • every day, for forty days, in order to feel a lasting effect;
  • at least three years – to consolidate the result.

To increase the effectiveness, you can practice kundalini yoga twice a day, with the pre-dawn hours being considered the best time for the first workout.

The practice is not shown to everyone. Before you start mastering kriyas, you need to consult a doctor and seek help from an experienced yoga instructor if you have the following dangerous symptoms and chronic pathologies:

  • hypertension;
  • hypotension;
  • frequent fainting;
  • serious injuries to the spine, joints, etc .;
  • diagnosed depression and other psycho-emotional disorders;
  • operations were postponed;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • cardiopathology, etc.

Contraindications to classes are:

  • acute inflammatory diseases;
  • epilepsy;
  • cholelithiasis;
  • Congenital heart defect;
  • mental illness.

What is needed for home training

In addition to the desire to evolve, developing both physically and spiritually, emotionally, it is necessary:

  • to create a calm environment conducive to concentration in practice;
  • right choose themusic for yoga and meditation.

To practice kundalini yoga at home, you will need: a

  • fitness or yoga mat that is pleasing to the eye, prevents injury and softens accidental falls;
  • comfortable, non-restrictive clothing (preferably cotton, linen or mixed fabrics), preferably light shades.

Additionally, you can use special equipment that helps during stretching and performing some asanas:

  • blocks;
  • belts, etc.
